Wool nr. Dorchester No. 2

Mee (1939) describes this object not as a holy-water stoup but: "On one of the windowsills we found an old stone of thrilling interest, for it was one of the ancient cresset stones, used as lamps in olden times. In this block of stone four cups were hollowed out for oil, and in each cup a wick burned." Whereas another source claims "The water stoup exhibited on the window sill was once fitted into the wall of Coombe Keynes church" [www.bath.ac.uk/~lismd/dorset/wool/church-guide.html].
