There are two entries for Langton [Herring] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SY6182/langton-herring/] [accessed 2 December 2018] neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. The 3rd ed. of Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874) notes: "There is an octagonal font of Perpendicular character, with quatrefoils on each face." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Perpendicular period. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SY6143882462] notes: "Parish Church. C14 Nave and Chancel. West Tower added early C19. Church drastically restored in 1827 and 1858, when vestry and south aisle added. [...] Font, stone, octagonal bowl with a quatrefoiled panel in each face, moulded underside, stem with trefoil-headed panel in each face, moulded and stepped square base, C15." The Dorset Historic Churches Trust [http://dorsethistoricchurchestrust.co.uk/langtonherring.htm] reports a font of the 15th century here.
