Font Notes:
Noted in the 3rd ed. of Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874) as "an old Norman font" in the new church [NB: an entry under West Milton, "The Chapel, a chapel at ease of Poorstock" in the same source, motes: The font appears to be Norman" -- it is not clear whether or not these two fonts are one and the same]. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. Listed in Long (1923) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. The Dorset Historic Churches Trust [http://dorsethistoricchurchestrust.co.uk/north_poorton] informs that this font "came originally from West Milton old church" [NB: West Milton is located just NE of North Portoon]. [NB: the church of St. Mary Magdalene at North Poorton has another font, the one in use: an octagonal basin decorated with motifs on the side panels and raised on a cluster of green marble [serpentine stone?] colonnettes, from the Victorian period -- the Victorian font is not listed in this Index on account of its late date]
