Noted in the 3rd ed. of Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874): "The font is circular, and of Purbeck marble; the stem is of rough stone, supposed to be Norman work." Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) and in Long (1923) as a baptismal font of the Norman period. In the RCHM (1970). Described and fully illustrated in Gerald Duke [www.martinstown.co.uk] who notes the attribution of this work to the "Purbeck Marblers Guild. The baptismal font consists of the original plain cylindrical basin of Purbeck stone and a modern cylindrical base.
