During his visit to this church on 12 October 1825, Glynne (1923) noted: "The font is square, and moulded with a kind of indented moulding. It is supported on a large round shaft, with four smaller ones, and th whole on a square base." Lewis' Dictionary of 1848 reports "a Norman font of Purbeck marble" in this church. Noted in the 3rd ed. of Hutchins (1973 c1861-1874): "The Purbeck marble font is worthy of notice, and has a square basin supported by a large central pillar, with smaller columns at the angles." Described in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font made of Purbeck marble. In Long (1923) as a font of the Norman period. Kelly's Directory of Dorsetshire (1935) mentions a font of the 13th century [source: transcription by Trevor Penfold in 2003 in www.dorset-opc.com]. Mee (1939) notes: "The font is probably 700 years old, and is square." Dru Drury (1949) as a square basin of Purbeck marble from the 12th century. In Newman & Pevsner (1972): "Font. C12, Purbeck marble, of table type. Eight of the usual shallow arches on one side, zigzag on another, a chain of lobes running horizontally and meeting at their appexes on yet another, and leaf squares on the fourth." Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble; no details [source given: G. Dru Drury]. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST7353805987] notes: "Parish Church.
