Cox & Harvey (1907: 161) report that "when the visitors of the peculiar jurisdiction of St. Paul's cathedral made a tour of their Essex churches in 1297, they inquired as to the material of the font; in a single case, namely, that of West Lee, they found that the font was one of wood." The book Lost Parishes of Essex, by Andrew Barham, reports a lost church at West Lee [full citation not available].
