Described as one of the few furnishings from the Gothic cathedral that that was devastated by fire in 1689, "the baptismal font which was cast in bronze by a local craftsman in 1450" [source: Atlantic of Roumania web site, p. 1]. The font ["Cristelnița"] was cast in bronze in 1472 and bears an inscription with the name of the priest, Johannes Reudel. Curiously there is a small brazier on the lower section of the font, said to be used to heat the water for baptisms. No cover present but the upper rim of the basin as two metal anchoring loops to secure a font cover to them.
