There is an entry for Willesden [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TQ2284/willesden/] [accessed 24 June 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Pevsner (1951) writes: "Font. One of the six of Norman date surviving in the county, tall square tapering bowl on thick central shaft with four slender subsidiary shafts, elementary abstract ornament." The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Middlesex, 1982) notes: "Willesden church, mentioned in 1181, [...] was the parish church for the whole of Willesden until 1867. [...] The medieval church had been rich in ornaments, plate, vestments, and books. [...] The oldest surviving part of the church is the mid 12th-century font, one of six Norman fonts in Middlesex", and footnotes: "See drawings made in 1839: Grange Mus., MS. 1; above, plate facing p. 209". A square font made of Wealden, Sussex or Purbek marble [source: Ye Olde Sussex Pages web site]. The Transport for London guided walks [www.livingstreets.org.uk] [accessed 26 March 2007] notes: "The church has one of the oldest Norman fonts in the London area". The Kent Council web page www.brent.gov.uk] [accessed 29 March 2007] entry for "Church End and the Parish of Willesden" notes: "The font is mid-12th century". Noted and illustrated in the Parish website [http://www.stmarywillesden.org.uk/Tour5.html] [accessed 21 April 2010]: "On the left as you enter is the font which dates from 1150 and is made of Purbeck Marble. It is the oldest in any parish church in Middlesex. It has a square, downward tapering bowl and stands on a large central pillar with four corner pillars." Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble: "bowl ornamented with panels, semi-circles and a range of six small shafts in low relief on each face" [source given: RCHM, 1937, pl. 10]. One of the sides is decorated with six semi-circles or large scallops, three up and three down, separated by a horizontal pipe; the side next to the right of that one has a large X motif or saltire cross. Round flat wooden cover with metal decoration and ring handle atop; appears modern.
