Harrison (1920) describes the church itself as Early English with Perpendicular additions, but mentions no font in it. The Victoria County History (Sussex, vol. 4, 1953) notes: "Savaric fitz-Cane and his wife Muriel, with the consent of their son Ralph, gave the church of Racton to Lewes Priory about 1142 [...] The nave may originally have been built in the 12th century and the chancel added in the 13th [...] The font is tub-shaped, probably 12th-century but restored". The VCH (ibid.) gives the dedication of the church as "unknown". Described in Whiteman (1994) as a baptismal font probably of the 12th century. The only ornamentation is a roll moulding around the upper rim. The restoration includes a modern two-step octagonal plinth or lower base added to the font. Noted and illustrated in the CRSBI (2008) with possible date in the 12th century, but much re-tooled.
