Described in Lewis' Dictionary of 1848: "the font is square on a circular column". Noted in Hussey (1852): "The font is square, shallow, on a stem and foot, all of Weald marble." Kelly's Directory of 1867 gives the material as "Sussex marble". Harrison (1920) reports a late-12th century font in this church. Noted in Drummond-Roberts (1935). In Whiteman (1994): "the 13th-century font is a square bowl of Sussex marble with tapering sides". Described and illustrated in the CRSBI (2008) with added comment: "Although this font probably just squeezes into the 13thc., it represents the continuation of a regional type, which originated and thrived in the late 12thc." In Jones & Martin (2000): "of Pentworth marble and dates probably from either the twelfth or thirteenth century [...] Although the base is badly mutilated, traces of carved feet are still visible at the four corners." The wooden font cover is round and flat, with a Latin cross finial/handle.
