Font Notes:
There is an entry for Bourton[-on-Dunsmore] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP4370/bourton-on-dunsmore/] [accessed 27 January 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Cox & Harvey (1907) list a baptismal font of the Early English period in this church. The Victoria County History (Warwick, vol. 6, 1951] notes: "The church [...] was almost entirely rebuilt in the 14th century and all that remains of the earlier church is a blocked south doorway to the chancel, the font, and probably part of the east bay of the south arcade. [...] There is a segmental pointed arch to the tower and in front of it is a 13th-century stone font, octagonal with a deep lead-lined basin, each side carved with a trefoil under a gable with a foliated finial." The font consists of an octagonal basin with large trefoiled arches topped with floral crockets on the sides; raised on a multi-block round base; the basin appears to have been cut at the lower sides; this may have been a tub-shaped font; the base is also rather incongruent. The wooden cover is a low octagonal pyramid with a floral finial; probably 19th-century.
