Font Notes:
Described in Layna Serrano (2001 c1969) as a perfect (?) baptismal font (="una perfecta pila bautismal") of the Romanesque period. Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla-La Mancha: Guadalajara (2009): a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with round arch-heads topping a broad rib pattern all around; raised on a round pedestal base with ribbed or piping all around. [NB: a photograph of the baptismal font at Torrecuadrada de los Valles by Carlos Bartolomé La Huerta appears in http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pila_romanica.jpg [accessed 18 March 2010]; the font illustrated in that photograph and the one in the Enciclopedia… vol. 2: 830, are similar but not identical, the latter being a more polished and better excuted font; furthermore, the font in La Huerta sows a pair of Latin crosses one up, one down incised on one of the ribs. A further digital photograph of 17 January 2021 by Javier González [www.turismodeobservacion.com/foto/pila-bautismal-de-la-iglesia-de-ntra-sra-de-la-asuncion-torrecuadrada-de-los-valles-guadalajara/93147/] [accessed 31 January 2021] shows the same font as the Enciclopedia... -- there could be an error in the identification of the font at either end, or, there may have been a re-tooling of the font between the two photographs -- to be resolved]
