Described and illustrated in Bolege-Vieweg (1998: 214, 215, 222) as a tub-shaped cylindrical baptismal font dating from the same date as the original church, probably the last decade of the 12th century. On-site notes: the cylindrical basin appears almost totally recarved; the moulding at the upper rim and the section decorated with palmettes just below it may both be original [NB: the palmettes are reminiscent of the ones decorating the font at Freckenhorst]; the scenes on the sides of the basin are all re-carved [L->R]: Crucifixion; armed soldier passant to the right beneath a shield bearin the initials (?) "AKP"; St George on horseback slaying a dragon, with a kneeling figure prays atop a cloud (?) that appears to emmanate from the dragon's back; benath St George's horse two shields charged with a set of initials on each; a conflated scene that includes the Nativity and the Adoration of the Magi, one of whom kneels before the manger with Christ Child, while Mary kneels behind the manger and Joseph stands behinf both; the ox and the mule are present; Baptism of Christ in the Jordan: John stands to the right of a kneeling Christ, and pours water over Christ's head with his bare hand; above and to the left is the Holy Ghost inside a radiant sun and below a cloud. The wooden cover is round, flat and plain, very thick.
