Inventoried and illustrated in Borg (2002) as a baptismal font in the 'Njudugsgruppent variant 3' made of sandstone between 1170 and 1220. Listed in Drake (2002) as a baptismal font of the Bestiarius workshop (Group 4). Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 910722F2] as a Njudungsgruppen baptismal font made of sandstone in the late-12th century. Baptismal font of the late-12th or early-13th century nade of sandstone; at the upper rim of the basin is a braid, all around; the sides of the basin have an arcade of six round arches on columns, both arch-heads abd columns made of beaded tape, with well-rendered foliage motifs in the spandrels; each arch houses and animals; in one of the arches is a smiling lion passant-gardant, with a an acanthus-like tail on its hind quarters, a front paw raised [L->R]; an unidentified quadruped passant towards the right has an acanthus-like tongue; a two-headed winged dragon in the next arch towards the right; a winged dragon passant towards the left; a horse-like quadruped passant towards the right, holds up a processional floriated cross, a tal fleur-de-lis stands by its mouth [NB: usually a representation of the Agnus Dei, but this animal is a horse, not a lamb]; a quadruped passant towards the left in the next arch, both tongue and tail acanthus-like; the spandrels of the arcade have acanthus-like motifs; the lower end of the basin has a band of saw-tooth; there is pattern of small ribs or gadroon-like motifs on the small underbowl; as the SHM entry [cf. supra] points out, the base is unusually well preserved; it is of the double-tier type, each level with a fat roll moulding in the centre and four protruding animal heads at 90-degree angles; a fine example. No cover present.
