Described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes d'Indre-et-Loire (2001, v. 1: 661) as the bucket-shaped basin of a 15th-century baptismal font; there were three or four heads ornamenting the upper basin sides, only one of which has retained any recognisable traits. This same source informs that the basin was sold during the French Revolution and later used outdoors, which accounts for the wear and tear; it was later acquired by a priest who offered it back to the church. [NB: the dating in the source is given as 15th century; the object, however, is quite similar to other such basins found in this area dating to the 11th through the 13th centuries]. The square pedestal base is of a later date, probably modern. There is another font here, a later one, of dark marble, the one in use, while the medieval one is now used as holy-water stoup.
