Font Notes:
Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) simply as a 12th-century baptismal font. Described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes d'Indre-et-Loire (2001, v. 1: 473) as a rather shallow rectangular basin mounted on an octagonal pyramidal base. It does not match any of the more standard shapes of baptismal fonts; an inscription on the wall near it informs that the font is believed to go back to Gallo-Roman times. The stone is identified in this same source as a yellowish sandstone of local extraction, a very hard stone used in this area for foundations, sarcophagi, etc., for its resistance to humidity and ware.
