Le patrimoine des communes d'Indre-et-Loire (2001, v. 1,: 313) lists it as a 12th-century holy-water stoup but describes it as "cuve baptismale en pierre de très grande taille" [=very large stone baptismal basin]. The illustration shows a cylindrical object with vertical sides and several mouldings on the underbowl; it appears to be wall-mounted.
