Le patrimoine des communes d'Indre-et-Loire (2001, v. 1,: 313) lists it as a 12th-century holy-water stoup but describes it as "cuve baptismale en pierre de très grande taille" [=very large stone baptismal basin]. The illustration in this source shows a round object with tapering sides and several mouldings on the underbowl; it appears to be [partly?] built into the wall. The entry for this church in Tourainissme [https://tourainissime.blogspot.com/2009/03/ambillou.html] [accessed 10 May 2025], however, shows a font consisting of a plain bucket-shaped basin raised ona round pedestal base, detached, in the nave; the basin shows clear evidence of damage to one side of the rim, and a metal staple on the opposite side; the pedestal base is round. This same source shows the round wooden cover standing next to the font; it appears round, flat and plain, modern.
