Described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes d'Indre-et-Loire (2001, v. 2: 781) as a hemispheric mounted baptismal font; the base consists of octagonal shafts. This source (ibid.) cites the Congrès archéologique de Tours (1949) in which Robert Ranjard dates the Varennes font to the 13th century, but it adds that it is more likely to be dated to the 15th or 16th century..
