Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal bowl with concave faces and moulded under-edge, plain stem and moulded base, early 16th-century." Listed in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as the basin of an early baptismal font "with concave sides and octagonal in plan", "plain and massive in appearance". [NB: a church here is said to have existed since the time of Canute (995? - 1035) and a church is recorded here in the 14th century, but we have no information on an earlier font here]
