Hussey (1852) writes only that "the font is enclosed in a case of carved oak", which does not seem to be noted by any of the later sources. Geldart (1899) notes that the Name JESUS is spelled "Jehiu, or possibly Jehsu" on this font. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Perpendicular period, with a shield on one of the panels of its basin; the shield contains the words: Jeshu, Marya [NB: C&H list in the wrong county, Gloucestershire]. Described in Tyrrell-Green (1928): "A large octagonal font with markedly concave sides, and quite plain except that on one side of the bowl a shield is carved bearing the name JESUS, and below MARIA, with a cross in the base of the shield". Noted succintly in Newman (1976): "Font. Perp[endicular]"
