Church Notes: Carrillo Lista (1997: 49ff) relates the origin of this church to the mid-11th century as part of a Benedictine monastery; in the early 16th century the monastery became a priory an, by the mid-1700s it had only one friar left. The church became a "curato" [=curacy, parish] in 1891. Only the church and some ruins remain of the original monastery. -- some of the mural paintigs appear to be 16thC, very late-Gothic period or the Renaissance; others are later, 18thC(?)
Described in Carrillo Lista (1997: 55) as a round baptismal font of about a meter in diameter; its only decoration is a roll moulding on the upper rim side; it has damage to the rim area. This author mentions the font but avoids a firm dating because it lacks any other type of decoration that might help in its dating. [NB: a photograph taken in June 2008 of the exterior of this church shows an object that appears to match the descripton in Carrillo List above; it is located outside the church, near the south doorway, obviously disused]. A second cylindrical object resembling a font is also located outside the church, this one by the west doorway; not known whether it belonged originally in the church or if it was a font. There is an old holy-water stoup inside the church, by the entranceway.
