Described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes de la Sarthe (2001, v. 1: 595) as an octagonal mounted holy-water stoup of the 16th century made of granite; a shield on one of the sides of the basin bears the arms of one of the abbots of the Abbaye de Perseigne, probably François de Ryé. The stoup is believed to be originally form this abbey church. An article in Ouest-France [www.ouest-france.fr/pays-de-la-loire/ce-que-cachait-leglise-de-neufchatel-en-saosnois-3917384] [accessed 23 July 2017] on the re-opening of the church in late 2015 after ten years of restoration work carried out here, mentions "un grand et massif «bénitier» de granit aux armes de Roland Le Gouz, abbé de Perseigne". Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM72000672]: "Bénitier de forme octogonale [...] granite [...] Provient de l'abbaye de Perseigne [...] Armoiries : écusson de Roland Le Gouz, abbé de Perseigne, mort en 1516 (sculpté sur l'une des faces du bénitier) [...] date 1515".
