There is an entry for Erbistock [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SJ3542/erbistock/] [accessed 9 August 2024]; it mentions neither priest nor church in it. Listed in Tyrrell-Green (1928: 32) as a baptismal font with a hexagonal basin. The Wrexham Churches Survey [https://cpat.org.uk/Archive/churches/wrexham/16776.htm] [accessed 9 August 2024] reports: "The present building was constructed in 1860 and contains only a few furnishings and fittings of earlier date including a font bowl that may be Norman". The entry for this church in Coflein [https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/400704/] [accessed 9 August 2024] notes: "Fittings and furnishings include a Caen stone pulpit with recessed quatrefoil designs and incised texts; octagonal font of similar design with oak lid; and an eighteenth-century chandelier. A disused font bowl may be of Norman date"; there is an entry also in Coflein [https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/400704/archives/] [accessed 9 August 2024] for "A black and white print of the font which used be at St Hilary's Church Erbistock. No negative" in the archives [no. 6050772], but there is no digital image viewable. The disused basin appears roughly round, with four protrusions at 90-degree angle at the upper rim; it lacks a base. The modern font is octagonal, both basin and base, and is probably dated to the 1860s re-building of this church.
