There is an entry for [North] Luffenham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK9303/north-luffenham/] [accessed 21 July 2015]; it mentions a priest, but not a church, in it, though there probably was one there. Tyrrell-Green (1928) lists this as one in a very large group of baptismal fonts that are plain octagonal with straightsided basins. The Victoria County History (Rutland, vol. 2, 1935) notes: "The building dates in the main from the 13th and 14th centuries, but has developed from a 12thcentury fabric with an aisleless nave [...] The 12th-century church was enlarged about 1200–20 [...] The font has a plain octagonal bowl, moulded on the lower edge; it is probably of 14th-century date, but is mounted on a modern stem". The basin is octagonal with plain tapering sides, but the underbowl chamfer has a moulded contour; the modern stem is octagonal with plain vertical sides; on a circular plinth that is part of the base of a pillar. The font appears to have been re-tooled or drastically cleaned and re-installed, fitting it into place by cutting into one of the sides of the basin.
