No individual entry for this Long Sutton found in the Domesday survey. Allen (1833) writes: "Here is a beautiful octagonal font, handsomely carved, and supported by a stone pedestal and four wooden pillars". Listed in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as one in a very large group of baptismal fonts that are plain octagonal with straightsided basins. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF4322722875] reports a "C12 ashlar font with tapering octagonal bowl" in a building originally of the late-12th or early-13th century. [NB: the font, if originally of the 12th-13th centuries, may have been altered -- Allen's description does not match the font; does it refer to a font in another Long Sutton? -- to be checked]
