Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, Hertfordshire (1911): "Font: octagonal bowl, on stem with engaged shafts, 14th-century." The Victoria County History (Hertsfordshire, vol. 3, 1912) notes: "The church of Ippollitts was a chapel to Hitchin […] The original church, of the late 11th century, consisted of a chancel and nave, to which north and south aisles were added about 1320, when the chancel was rebuilt. […] The font, an octagonal bowl standing on a stem with engaged shafts, is of 14th-century date." Listed in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as one in a very large group of baptismal fonts that are plain octagonal with straightsided basins. The old font cover rendered in Buckley's 1845 watercoloured is no longer on the font; instead, there is now a new one consisting of an octagonal platform with eight vertical scroll ribs gathered at the turned finial; modern.
