No entry found for this Sandon in the Domesday survey. The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923) notes: "Font: octagonal with moulded lower-edge to bowl, probably early 16th-century." Listed in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as one in a very large group of baptismal fonts that are plain octagonal with straightsided basins. The entry for this church in Historic England [List Entry Number: 1235849] notes: "The nave and chancel are C12 [...] C12 pillar piscina with a spiral shaft, chevron base and interlace capital, found built into the NW buttress in 1904 [...] Polygonal font with plain bowl and moulded lower edge, C15 or C16, with a late C17 or c18 cover." [NB: the fabric of this church goes back to Norman times, but we have no information on its earlier font]
