There are two entries for this Marton [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SJ8468/marton/] [accessed 3 October 2019], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Tyrrell-Green (1928: 30) lists it as one in a very large group of baptismal fonts of the 14th or 15th century that are plain octagonal with straightsided basins; only the basin remains and it was reported lying in the porch ca. 1928. [NB: there is no mention of this object in Pevsner (1971)]. [cf. Index entry for Marton No. 1 for the Victorian font (wood and metal) in this church]
