An anonymous and undated B&W photograph of this font is held at the Essex Record Office [Mint Binder Tilliangahm ref. I/Mb 364/1/2]. Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: square bowl with coventional foliage in relief, late 12th-century." Described in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as a square baptismal font mounted on a central support, with four corner shafts at the angles. In Pevsner (1976) and in Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Late Norman, with plain square bowl on quatrefoil foot with attached angle shafts. Carved foliage."
