There is an ebtry for this Lea [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SO6621/lea/] [accessed 16 June 2024]; it mentions neither priest nor church in it. Described and illustrated in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as a very interesting font originally "made for a holy-water stoup. The material is Italian marble, elaborately carved, and adorned besides with small bands of Italian mosaic [Cosmatic work]. A cluster of rams' heads immediately supports the bowl, and the slender stem is curiously knotted in the centre, resting for base upon the figure of an apparelled elephant". [a haloed figure is depicted on the "apparel" of the elephant]. Described and illustrated in A.G. Sensor (1930) [http://www.commanet.org/reflect.aspx?action=navigate&rec=5009999900222463&dir=P&view=remin] [accessed 31 December 2008]: "The Lea Church has been enriched by a white marble sculptured bowl and elegant pedestal of considerable antiquity. This beautiful gift has been presented by Mrs Hope Edwards in memory of her mother and was purchased from a London dealer who received it direct from Italy. The bowl was originally a holy-water stoop but it has now been re-dedicated and in future will serve as a font for the rite of baptisms." A description of this font is also given in the Royal Commission's inventory of Herefordshire (1931-1934): "Font: of white marble, with round bowl carved with scrolled ornament and figures and with a band of Cosmatesque mosaic; shaft in form of a column, knotted in the middle and with capital carved with four rams' heads; base standing on back of carved figure of an elephant, probably S. Italian work, early 13th-century, given to the church in 1907." [cf. Index entry for Lea No. 2 for an old font, perhaps the original from this church]
