Font Notes:
There are two entries for Crostwick [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG2515/crostwick/] [accessed 10 April 2014], one of which reports half a church in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church is a rectory dedicated to St. Peter", but the earlier reference to the church here is in the listing of rectors: one, "William Gerard", undated, and the following one, "1472, Thomas Stathe, presented by the Bishop of Norwich". The present font is noted and illustrated in Cautley (1949); octagonal stone mounted baptismal font of the fused type [i.e.: all three volumes of the font fused into one without marked boundaries], like the font at Stalham; they both have a marked division of the basin panels; the ones at Crosswick have each a seated figure; the chamfer, ornamented with crossing Ogee arches, just narrows down into the pedestal into one fused piece; the pedestal has eight niches, each occupied by a standing figure. The brief lower base is octagonal and plain. The font has either been drastically re-tooled and/or recarved. or it is modern.
