Font Notes:
Listed in Bond (1908) as probably a stoup, one of many "fontlets" and other suspicious objects which, in some cases, are simply domestic mortars brought into the churchs under the mistaken identity of holy-water stoups [NB: Bond gives the site as "Wenden Vicarage, Essex", but the locality is Wendens Ambo -- this object is not noted in the RCHM or in Pevsner]. A certain holy-water stoup is noted in the Royal Commission of Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Stoup: In tower--in W. wall, S. of doorway, with moulded trefoiled head and moulded jambs, late 14th-century, basin restored." [cf. Index entry for Wendens Ambo No. 1 for the baptismal font at St. Mary's]
