Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Värmland (1924- , Bd. I, hft. 2: 146-147) as one of two surviving baptismal font bases, probably from the earlier churches. This one has a rope moulding around the upper 1/3 of the cylindrical pedestal; the lower base, which has the usual splayed shape found in the fonts of this area [cf. Index entries for Nor, Segerstad, etc.], is ornamented with three concentric circles incised on the surface [the missing basin was probably bucket-shaped, like those at Nor and Segerstad]. The material is potstone [an impure steatite used to make pots in prehistoric times, and often used in the fonts of this area and period]. The base is dated in the source [cf. supra] to the mid-13th century.
