Noted and illustrated in Montelius & Brusewitz (1878), as one of three fonts in this area known to have an auxiliary drainage mini-basin at the lower base. Described and illustrated in Bond (1908) as one of two Swedish baptismal fonts [the other one mentioned in Bond is Säfve [i.e., Säve] that have "a small cup-like hollow containing a drain at the base of the font, and in it is a small vessel which could be taken out and used to receive the drippings, which then would be poured into the hollow at the base of the font". Bond (ibid.) gives the font at Nun Monkton in Yorkshire, as an English font that "has a small hollow in precisely this position". Noted and illustrated in Hallbäck (1961) as a baptismal font made of soapstone by Master Thorkillus, the basin decorated with an acanthus vine stemming from the mouth of a crowned variant of a Green Man's head. Drake (2002) describes it as one of three fonts -Säve and Rolfstorp are the others- from the workshop of Master Thorkillus. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 930708F4] as a baptismal font of the Thorkillusgruppen made of soapstone ca. 1200. The font consists of a cylindrical basin with rounded underbowl, a cylindrical stem and a round lower base. The basin is decorated with a crownwd human head with an acanthus vine stemming from its mouth and curling into multiple scrolls that end in animal head shapes (lion, bird, etc.); the underbowl is decorated with a pattern of very broad rib-like shapes all around, and a roll moulding below; the round lower base has a moulding in the shape of a plain vine with leafy ends; in the front of the lower base, just above the foliated motif mentioned above, is a small hemispherical depression with a drain hole in its centre; it taken a carved insert that appears to be original [unconfirmed] and can be removed at will. The font has no cover now but one made of wood does appear in an old undated photograph [cf. Images area]; a metal baptismal dish is used on the font now.
