Font Notes:
Described and illustrated by Fischer, in Sveriges kyrkor: Västergöland (1922-, Bd. I, hft. 4: p. 446, 449) where it is dated to the 13th century; the font is described as composite, the base being of a later date; Fischer remarks on its similarity to the font at Grenna. Noted Hallbäck (1971). Described and illustrated in Dahlberg (1998: 112ff) as a cylindrical mounted baptismal font from Tådene's "gamla kyrka" [=old church] now demolished; the font, which has suffered considerable damage, especially to the basin, is now in the "nya kyrka" [=new church]. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920521F3] as a baptismal font made of sandstone towards the mid-12th century by a regional hand; the SHN entry remarks on the presence of flaking iron oxide [="betydande partier av nu flagnande järnoxid "] on it, and cites the entry in Hallbäck [cf. supra]. The basin has vertical sides and stands on a cylindrical shaft that is plain except for a round moulding at the bottom where it meets the lower base, itself ornamented there with a wider round moulding, semi-circles and foliage. Conisderable damage to the upper im, with a large chunk missing and another such missing from the underbowl. No font cover present.
