Described and illustrated in Le Patrimoine... de la Vendée (2001, v. 2: 902) as an octagonal granite "baptistère" belonging to the "'époque carolingienne" [=Carolingian period]; the basin shows a drain hole on one of the sides, towards the middle, which is a likely indication of its use in a farm at some point in its existence. The source (ibid.) states that it originates from the Carolingian church burnt during the Revolution, nd that the municipality intends to have it moved to the present parish church, l'église Saint-Mélaine. [NB: as with the similar object in nearby Chaillé-sous-les-Ormeaux, the early dating and even the function could be questioned]
