Church Notes: The original church dates back probably to the 8th century, but the Romanesque church dates to the 11th century and later.
Site Location: Bern, Switzerland, Europe
Directions to Site: On the south shore of Lake Thun, about 8 km SSE of Thun
Additional Comments: recycled font: it now appears to serve as a flower pot elsewhere in the castle
Font Notes:
A photograph of an object which the caption descrbes as "baptism font" appears in the WEB page of Spiez ( htp://jakobsweg.ch/JWE/ORTE_E/espiezkinh.htm ); it appears to be serving now in one of the corridors of the castle as a flower pot. The object has a square pedestal base of the "baluster-type", quite robust-looking, and a square basin (?) made in the graded-chamfer shape. It appears to be an object of the late 17th century. [NB: the Index entry for Spiez No. 1 reports a ca. 1500 baptismal font, formerly from the parish church, now in the Schlosskirche]
