Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Bond (1908) as an octagonal unmounted font of the Post-Reformation period; it is dated 1669 in an inscription on the front side, inside a wreath which contains also some initials; two large protruding human heads, one male and one female, appear on the two contiguous sides, to the left and the right; their bodies, by contrast, are tiny; it is a late work -as the date indicates- that harks back at earlier font designs, though not very successfully. [NB: this cannot be the font installed in the Cathedral in 1615 and later replaced by the restored 13th-century font] [NB: confirmation of this, and other data requested from the Museum - reply pending]
