Font Notes:
Noted, with an illustration by J. Basire, by in Gough (1792). Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a baptismal font of the Early English period. Described and illustrated in Bond (1908) as a cylindrical mounted baptismal font of the 13th century; the basin has seven roll mouldings around its sides, the one in the midlle thicker than the others; between the two at the upper and lower ends of the basin, there is a row of dog-tooth motif; the base consists of a broad shaft in the centre with four thinner ones attached, one at each corner; the lower base is also square following the contour of the columnar cluster shape; the whole is raised on a quadrangular plinth. The illustration in Bond shows the font with a low-to-medium conical cover, probably of the 17th or 18th century, topped with a knob finial. [NB: Bond uses both "Ozelworth" and "Ogleworth" when referring to this village; the current name is "Ozleworth"]. Noted in Verey and Brooks (1999-2002): "Font. Early C13. Circular bowl with a double astragal or torus moulding. Beneath the rim a band of Transitional dogtooth; a band of nailhead encircles the bottom. Circular pedestal with four attached circular shafts."
