Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Skåne (1932- , Bd. III, hft. 1: 105,106 and fig. 109) as an almost cylindrical sandstone basin [the sides are slightly angled] believed to be originally from the church at Vä, located in the Statens Historiska Museum of Stckholm since 1867 [a copy is now in the restored church, just west of the chancel arch]. The basin is ornamented with a large band of linked palmettes in heart-shaped frames all around the sides; above this band, around the upper rim sides, a thin band of diamond and pairs of vertical grooves; on the lower basin side, around another thin band, an inscription with the initial text of the Ave Maria [cf. Inscription area]. The underbowl has a pattern of large ribs. The base, both in the museum and in the church, is modern: the one in the church is square, while the museum one is round. Tynell (1913- :36) believes it may have been originally from Vä (Mariakyrka), a church that got a new font in the 1700s. Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 910325F1] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the mid-13th century. [NB: an interesting piece from this church is a life-size wooden statue of John the Baptist, a stand for the baptismal dish, originally carved by Peter Norrman ca. 1700, now in the museum at Kristianstad - cf. Index entry for Va No. 2] -- [NB: Roosval's entry for this font in his 1917 Dopfunta i Statens Historiska Museum has "ORNRA ÅSUM" in parenthesis after "Vä", the name of the church; it appears to be a misprint of Norra Åsum].
