Font Notes:
Noted in Tynell (1913-1921) as the surviving basin of a medieval font, the original base missing. Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Skåne (1932, Bd. I, hft. 3: 181); the bucket-shaped sandstone basin of the Romanesque baptismal font is one of the few objects remaining from the old church. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900620F2] as a baptismal font made of sandstone ca. 1200 by a regional workshop; the base is a modern replacement. The original basin is round, tub-shaped, almost cylindrical -the difference in circumference is minimal- and its only ornamentation is a very thin rope motif around the side of the upper rim and another one at the bottom, on the underside, although this one is considerably thicker; the base is modern; earlier photographs [cf. ImagesArea] show an octagonal base, octagonal in the earlier images, round-to-square in the later ones. No cover present.
