Nordström (1984) mentions an octagonal baptismal font in this church. There are two fonts and a number of font-size holy-water stoups inside this basilica. The octagonal font, located at the west end of the south aisle is an octagonal tank-type font, the sides vertical and decorated with an arcade of round arches of which only the ones at the angles have columnar supports; these columns have capitals and base, the stems themselves decorated a variety of patterns; there are mouldings at the lower end of the basin sides. The finial of the octagonal font cover is large statue [Christ?] holding a cross with banner. The other 'font' is said to be Roman and made of pophyry; that appears to be the material of large round basin, but the base is a round pedestal of a later date and different material [marble?]; it has been described as a 'vasca lustrale' [offerings basin] and said to have originated in the 'terme' of the city: "Sotto la navata di sinistra è collocata una grande coppa in porfido rosso, un monolite del diametro di quasi tre metri, proveniente, come il piatto della fontana di Piazza delle Erbe, dalle terme romane della città (II sec. d.C.). [NB: we have no information on whether or not this font was ever used for baptisms].
