Noted in Lysons (1806-1833), in Paley (1844) [after Lysons] and in Bond (1908) as a baptismal font with a dodecagonal basin. The Victoria County History (Bedford, vol. 2, 1908) notes: "The church of Meppershall was given to the priory of Lenton by Robert son of William de Meppershall, and the gift was confirmed by Henry II [1154-1189] [...] The tower and transepts are the oldest part of the church, and belong apparently to the first quarter of the twelfth century [...] The font, at the west end of the aisle, is of fifteenthcentury date, and only unusual in being twelve-sided in form." [NB: we have no information on the medieval font of this church].
