Scene Description: this side is entirely dediocated to the Annunciation to the Shepherds [L->R]: on the narrow side facing north, a sow feeds on acorns from an oak tree; next is an angel holding up a scroll to a hooded shepherd whose right hand is raised with an open palm, the left holding a staff; after a three-leaf branch appears another shepherd, dressed in pastoral garb but his hood is off his head; he sits holding a flute of some sort, but it is a dog he holds in his left arm that blows in the instrument while the fingers of the shepherd's left hand play the holes; his right hand is raised with an open palm; at the extreme right more leaves and a scraggu sheep [a Gotland sheep?]

There is no Herod in this scene. The seated figure, though regal-looking here, is Joseph. Joseph is part of the previous scene and shares the bench/throne with Mary and the Child in the Adoration of the Magi.

Described and illustrated in Fåhraeus (1974) as a 13th-14th century baptismal font of the Paradise type: hemispheric basin ornamented with a ribbed pattern mounted on a conical stem with an upper ring moulding and a splayed lower base which, unlike many of the bases of this type of font, is square with an upper roll moulding and stylised foliage (?) motifs in the corners, more like an old-fashion columanr base. The whole is raised on large circular plinth. On-site notes: the font is made of a dark-reddish marble (or limestone of the type that polishes to a marble-like shine); the wide circular plinth has a drain dish with a hole in it, but the basin itself has no visible drain. This font is located by the north pillar of the chancel arch. The narrower tower appears to be the original of the Romanesque church here, but we have no information on the font of the earlier church here.
