Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (Bd. IV, hft. 2: 204, 205) as a baptismal font "av mussel-cuppa-typ" [=of the shell-basin type] -i.e., later named the "Paradise font" type- of two colours of limestone: the basin is grey and the conical pedestal base is reddish, and dated by Roosval to the mid-13th century]. Several sources claim mid-13th century for this font, but its likely date is in the 16th entury. The basin sides are ornamented with the usual large-rib pattern, but what is not usual is the late tall tower-like wooden cover, an unusual sight on this island; the font cover was installed at the time of the restoration ca. 1900. On-site notes: most indications suggest a 16th-century date for this font; no information found of the medieval font of this church.
