[NB: although this font would not belong in this Index on account of its late date, it is included because of its special characteristics]. Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (Bd. IV, hft. 1: 52-53) as a wooden baptismal font dated to ca. 1730; it is chaliced-shaped and topped with a "kronformat" [=crown-shaped] lid [NB: these Swedish "crown" covers are somewhat akin to the Jacobean font covers of England, but usually more humble in both size and decoration] with a dove finial. The font sides are quite ornate, the basin with a trimming all around and large cherubs; the centre ring is now more like a ball, ornamented with angel heads, while the dome base has a ribbed pattern with foliage motifs; the lower edge shows a crenellated rim. This font is a rare find on the island of Gotland, most of the others being of either the figurative Romanesque type or of the later Paradise type. There is no mention of the original font (fonts?) from the old church.
