Church Notes: mid-13thC(?) brick church; late-medieval mural paintings by Rinkabymästaren whitewashed in the 17thC but uncovered in 1928;
Noted in Brunius (1850). Described and illustrated in Tynell (1913). Described and illustrated in Rydbeck (1936). Noted in Reutersvärd (1967). Described and illustrated in Carlsson (1976: 153-154 and pl. 268) as a goblet-shaped baptismal font from ca. 1200. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900627F3] [accessed 24 May 2021] as a 'Vitabygruppen' baptismal font made of sandstone ca. 1200. The basin side has a complex vine in which a human bust or demi-figure appears to raise a glass or chalice [the figure perhaps a bishop's, as suggested in the SHM]; below it wide ribs reach all the way to the ring moulding at the bottom of the underbowl; the base consists of two volumes: the lower one is plain and square; the upper one appears at first sight like a fat roll moulding but it is actually made up by the bodies of four seals on a heel-to-toe arrangement; the font appears rather worn, especially on the sides of the basin. No cover present.
