Font Notes:
The Domesday entry for "Hasingeham" mentions neither church nor cleric in this place. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church of Hasingham is a rectory [...] Dedicated to St. Mary. Rectors. In 1319, Adam Haghenne was instituted, presented by Maud, late wife of Sym. de Rattlesden." A font here is listed in Andre (1882) as a lead baptismal font of the Norman period [NB: Andre uses spelling 'Hasingham']. This lead font is also listed in Lethaby (1893) as Norman, probably after Andre. Andre (1899) writes: "I had been led to expect a third specimen at Hasingham, but was disappointed to find that it had been replaced by a stone one of common-place design." Reported in Bond (1908) as a former lead font, probably "melted down by the vicar and churchwardens [...] 'because it was unshapely'". Pevsner & Wilson (1997) report that a fire destroyed most of the interior of this church in 1971, so all present furnishings are of that time. The modern font of octagonal design and a modern cover of wood openwork would probably date from the same time.
