Noted in Brunius (1850) as a font made of a reddish marble [cf. infra]. Described in Tynell (1913-1921), who mentions Brunius; Holmbygruppen font. In Reutersvärd (1967). Described and illustrated in Rydén (1995: 86-87) as a chalide-shaped baptismal, located in the "dopkapellet" [=baptismal chapel], in the north transept; it is a typical example of "paradisfunt" [=Paradise font] made of Gotland limestone, with a hemispherical basin ornamented with large ribbed motif (also described as palm-leave), mounted on a pedestal base that is rounded multi-lobed at the top, with a roll moulding, and then splays out to end in a square but still multi-lobed shape at the bottom. Described in Söderberg (1987: 134) as a 12th-century baptismal font at the Cathedral of Lund. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 950703F1] as a 'musselcuppstyp' baptismal font made of limestone [cf. supra] in the second half of the 13th century; the SHM notes that the stem is a modern reconstruction. [cf. Index entry for the other baptismal font from Lund Cathedral, Lund No. 2, a late-16th century metal font now [1995] in the Domkyrkomuseet [=Cathedral museum]]
Credit and Acknowledgements: We are grateful to the cathedral caretaker who dedicated considerable time to guide BSI through different areas of the site, regaled us with stories about the burial of Archbishop Anders Sunesen and the legends surrounding his burial sites within the cathedral; the caretaker was also most helpful in providing aceess to areas of the site restricted to the general public.
