Described and illustrated in Boström (1966- , Bd. II, hft. 1: 189ff): only the underbowl and upper part of the base of the old baptismal font remain, made of grey sandstone from Burgsvik, Gotland [material identification by geologist Erik Åhman of Uppsala, a/p note in Boström, p. 210n]; the surface of the underbowl is ornamented with four human heads, wearing short hair; the presence of isolated heads in this position is not a common occurrence in fonts of this period and area. The upper block of the base has a roll moulding at the top and another at bottom; between these two, and also on them at certain spots, are a number of long-haired human heads, lilies and eagles, the latter of which would immediately suggest the authorship of the Calcarius workshop. Boström reports Roosval's attribution of this font to "Hegwalds posthuma verkstad" [=Hegwald's posthumous workshop], whom Roosval cites as the carver of the Stenkyrka font [cf. entry in this Index] and dating to the second half of the 12th century. ***[NB: Roosval (1918: 156) does NOT attribute this font to Hegwald, but to the anonymous Majestatis]. Boström's own dating is in agreement with Ruttersvärd's, that is, the first quarter of the 13th century. [NB: there is a 17th-century baptismal font in use in this church, standing inside the south entrance, about halfway in the nave - entry in the Index available]
